Many reactions, such as fuels burning, are irreversible - they go to completion and cannot easily be reversed. Reversible reactions are different. In a reversible reaction the products can react to produce the original reactants again.<xml><o></o>
Reversible reactions are reactions in which the products can react to produce the original reactants.<o></o>
In a closed system where none of the reactants or products can escape, reversible reactions reach an equilibrium. At equilibrium, the reactions are still happening but at the same rate, so the concentrations of reactants and products do not change.<o></o>
If the forward reaction is exothermic and the temperature is increased, the yield of products is decreased. If the forward reaction is endothermic and the temperature is increased, the yield of products is increased. In equilibria where there are gases, the reaction moves in the direction of the fewest molecules if the pressure is increased.
